This year the Art Program is off to another exciting, fun-filled year. Student's started Art classes on Tuesday, and have been busy ever since. Here are some examples of the lessons students have been working on:

Grade K:
Primary Color Roller Coaster-This is a 3-D structure that students create by folding, twisting and bending paper to form an imaginary roller coaster sculpture.

Grade One:
Self-Portraits From Head to Toe-Students review shapes, and how to use them to create their self-portraits.
This lesson is repeated in the Spring to show the huge growth of development from the beginning to the end of the year.

Grade Two:
Torn Paper Fall Trees-This is a lesson in which students tear a tree form from construction paper, gluing it together to make a collage. They then utilize a Pointillism painting technique to create the fall leaves.

Grade Three:
Still Life Drawing With Apples-This grade has been introduced to their first still life drawing using apples. Students begin to notice that apples are not always perfectly round nor red. They use oil cray-pas and are taught blending techniques to enhance their drawings.

Grade Four:
Silhouettes at Dusk-Students had a mini review on silhouettes. Using pastels and black construction paper, students created an eerie fall scene at dusk.

Grade Five:
Abstract Pencil Drawings-Fifth graders used pencils and a French curve set to design an abstract drawing. Students were required to show a full range of values, from black to white, choosing to shade in either the positive or negative space of their drawings.

Grade Six:
Contour Drawing of Shoes-Students have been introduced to contour and blind contour drawings for the first time. Students first completed a practice blind contour drawing of their shoe, using one continuous line without looking at the paper. Once completed, students completed with a contour line drawing of their shoe.

Please remember to have your child bring in a smock on Art day. All students need them to keep their clothes free of stains. An old long sleeved dress shirt works best.
