Even though we're in the middle of the winter and in budget season, two tough times, there is so much at Memorial School to warm the heart. As I visit the classrooms, I am struct by all the wonderful learning going on and the eager, happy faces of children truly enjoying what they are doing. I just left Mrs. Manninen's classroom after watching all the kindergarten students sing and also sign the song Don't Laugh at Me. It is never too early for students to learn to be tolerant, kind, and accepting of differences. The kindergarten students will be sharing those important words and song in our upcoming Friday Community Gathering so that all our students will hear and feel that most important message.
Also at the assembly, our fifth grade "Green Team" volunteers will be receiving their own team T-shirts and talk about our "going green" recycling initiative with their classmates . We'll also announce the expansion of our 2nd annual penny drive for The Haitian Health Foundation (HHF). http://www.haitianhealthfoundation.org/index.php/support/
Given the catastrophy in Haiti, our friends at HHF need our support more than ever to do their good work in support of the poorest of the poor Haitian families, especially now that their villages have been destroyed. Our fundraising effort will expand to allow for any spare change, not just pennies, to help fill our big jug in the lobby. Parents are welcome to drop a quarter or two in as well.
No matter how long I have been in this profession, working with children will always be, for me, the most important work in the world. I still love what I do and feel I have the greatest job in the world. Thank you for sharing your children with me. They are wonderful.
